Answer: A geothermal heat pump has two parts- a loop field and a heat pump unit. The latter is present inside the house. The former is inserted inside the ground. The loop field contains antifreeze solution that absorbs the heat present inside the ground. The fluid brings this heat to the heat pump. The fluid is compressed by the heat pump compressor that raises its temperature and pressure even further. The heat generated during this process is used to heat your home. In the summer, the process is reversed and indoor heat is extracted from your home and dumped into earth through the liquid circulating in the loops underground.
